Web Hosting and Design
Many of our own products and services are managed and supported through our own server infrastructure and accordingly as our business has grown so our own need for reliable web hosting has become more critical.
Wiggly's internet presence started with a single server based at a data center in Norwich and has grown over the years into a sophisticated multi server geographically diverse system. We have servers running Linux and Windows with a variety of software capabilities that are required to provide state of the art web hosting.
If you are looking for a reliable host for your website Wiggly is hard to beat. We have worked hard to provide a truly reliable system that will keep your site and email online even if the most extreme circumstances arise. However, not all hosts are equal some suppliers will cut corners so here are some questions to ask:
Q. What happens if the power supply fails?
A. It is standard practice for a data center to have a standby power system. However there have been incidents where the standby generators were not capable of powering the whole data centre and many servers were turned off.
Q What happens if there is a fire?
A. Most data centers have an automated fire depressant system. The server with your website's data should survive. But the fire depressants are highly toxic and there have been cases where it took months before health and safety quarantine were lifted.
Q. What happens if there is a theft?
A. Data centers control access very strictly. Moreover the computer racks themselves are locked. However there was a recent case when all the servers at a data centre were stolen by an organized gang.
Q. How is your website backed up and is it an offsite backup. How often is the backup completed?
A. Our geographically diverse structure backs up between the sites automatically every hour.
Q. What happens to email that has not been collected if a server failure occurs.
A. All email will be lost since the last backup - with our setup the maximum loss will be 1 hour.
Q. What happens if a bandwidth carrier has a failure?
A. Most data centers buy their bandwidth from a number of carriers if one carrier fails others take over. Our first datacenter in Norwich only had one provider not good for reliability and hence we moved!
Q. What is the maximum speed that the server can serve web pages to the internet?
A. The standard is: Internet transit bursting to 100Mbps. Both our sites provide this service.
Q Who owns the servers?
A. We own and maintain all our servers. Some providers rent a virtual server and do not have any physical control over the hardware.
In addition to our hosting services we offer a full website design, maintenance and hosting facility. We can advise you on the selection and registration of your Domain name, work together to set up your site and indeed we can keep it up to date and relevant. However, we believe that the best person to maintain a website is the owner; accordingly (where appropriate) we provide the tools for the customer to upload changes and amendments to their website. Associated with your domain you can activate as many e-mail addresses as you require. We do make a small management charge if you require more than 5 mailboxes per domain.
